smiling subconsciously
when your eyes catch sight of the national flag

feeling pride nip around your heart,
then bursts,
sparkles and all
patriotism is
looking forward to national day
every single year,
and watching it on live television
without fail, extremely focussed
patriotism is
singing the anthem;
reciting the pledge
with every ounce of
conviction embedded in
your voice
being patriotic is not just
meaningless proclamations of
love towards your country
being patriotic is
loving your country
from the bottom of your heart
( for life )
being patriotic is
displaying your sincerity through
subtle gestures,
and reserving an air of
exultance just for
your homeland
loving your country unconditionally is
being patriotic—
it doesn’t have to be announced,
for it can be
