bustling carriages,
packed buses
“here, have this seat.” “thank you.”
graceful is our society
cheery smiles,
excitement filled
classroom “irfan, veera, come join us!” “okay, guanghui!”
multi-racialism;
thriving right from the very beginning
“hey. how’s it like being an artist?” ;
“it’s been long, heard you won the
gold medal at the youth games!” —dreams,
they now have a chance,
no matter what
the future of singapore, our homeland
—represented within the lines above and
beyond.

mini-reflection done in the classroom, less than twenty-four hours before national day, when i asked myself, “what kind of singapore do i want future me to live in?”
with changing times, come changing minds — our views, beliefs, and dreams (especially those) change as we grow, whether as a person, as a family, or even as a nation. no matter how advanced singapore will be in the future, i whole-heartedly wish for all of us, not just singaporeans, to stay connected with our roots and never forget how to carry ourselves as a person.
