nowadays
nowadays, they lock their doors.
nowadays, they don't even smile.
nowadays, they're like strangers,
merely coexisting.
nowadays, it's nothing like then.
then, was what they called 'kampongs'.
exuding life,
mostly of smiles and laughter.
open doors, open arms,
neighbours were welcomed.
for with home cooked food,
they were family.
everyone was safe and sound,
in the very bottom of their hearts.
nostalgia, it hit them all.
they missed everything,
their beloved animals,
precious fruit trees.
most importantly,
the heartwarming bonds.
yet despite the friendships formed,
the 'kampong' spirit is now gone.
